UGAMP Newsletter number 13: UK Met. Office data

UK Met. Office data

For some time the UK Met Office assimilated dataset has been available from the British Atmospheric Data Centre. For those unfamiliar with the dataset it comprises u, v, g, t and w from 17th October 1991 to the present day (August 1992-present for w) at 12gmt daily. The data covers from 1000mb to 0.316mb and is considered to be one of the best representations we have available of the atmosphere.

Due to the source of this data (a VAX in America strangely enough) it is stored in VAX format or gzipped ASCII. I have now translated the dataset back into the original met office binary format which is readable on both the Cray and Suns. The BADC have kindly allocated a disk for the storage of this dataset and it is all available on-line.

If you are interested in this dataset or in getting an nfs mounted link to the data then please get in touch with me.
